How to Become A Christian

The Bible states that God made the world and everything in it , including us. He made it perfect but gave us the freedom to choose to follow Him. Sadly, we have all turned away from Him and done our own thing. Our turning away is called sin. This desire to sin has put a distance between us and God that we cannot cross. Ultimately, this chasm of ends in death and eternal separation from God. God doesn't want us to spend eternity in a place designed for those who rebel against Him, so He decided to do something. The price of sin is death, but God decided to pay the cost for us through His Son Jesus Christ. God offers the gift of salvation form our sins freely. To receive it, we must trust Jesus as Lord and Savior and invite Him into our life.

How do you actually become a Christian? You have to have a conversation with God. These are the three things we must say in our prayer.

1. We must admit that we have messed up. We must own the wrong that we have done and decide that we want to turn away from it.

2. We must believe that Jesus is God's Son and He has paid the price for our mistakes by dying on a cross and was risen on the third day.

3.  We must confess that Jesus is our Savior and Lord. Simply put, if He is your Lord then you give Him control of your life. You make a pledge to become a follower of Christ.

Are you ready to do these three things? If you are then say this prayer with a sincere heart:

Dear Lord Jesus,
I know that I am a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe You died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn from my sins and invite you to come into my heart and life. I waant to trust and follow You as my Lord and Savior.
In Your Name, Amen.

If you prayed that prayer with a sincere heart, the Bible says in Romans 10:13,

Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

It is also says in Ephesians 2:8-9,

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.

If you just prayed that prayer I would love to hear from you. I also encourage you to find a church to be involved in and get a Bible if you don't already have one. Take a moment and look at How To Pick a Church at the top of the page. God has a plan and a purpose for your life. He has a job that He wants you to do. Becoming a member of a local church is the first step in finding what that job is.
